GEOCELLS

    WHAT ARE GEOCELLS?

Also known as cellular confinement, they are three-dimensional synthetic structures in a honeycomb shape, made of high-density polyethylene (or other polymers or combinations thereof) fused into diamond-shaped cells. Once the panels are expanded to their maximum extension and filled with soil or gravel, they provide effective confinement for unconsolidated soils, preventing their movement even on steep slopes or in erosion-prone areas.

Also, under certain characteristics, the geocell is used to reinforce the soil alone or in combination with other geosynthetics such as geotextiles and geogrids.

    Physical characteristics

    • Three-dimensional panels with rhomboidal openings, the panel expands to adapt in the best way to cover the required area.
    • Thickness: 3", 4", 6", and 8"
    • Surface: smooth, textured, perforated.
    • Colors: black, green, beige

    APLICATIONS OF GEOCELLS

    • Slopes and soils in roads, highways, freeways, and railways.

    • Channels.

    • Riverbeds.

    • Streams.

    • Decorative lakes.

    • Sports fields.

    • Green roofs.

    • Coverings in landfills.

    • Final disposal sites for industrial waste.

    ADVANTAGES OF GEOCELLS

    • Protection against landslides and erosion on slopes.
    • Revegetation of slopes and channels.
    • Increases soil bearing capacity through confinement and load distribution.
    • Lower maintenance of communication routes (roads, paths, highways, railways).
    • Practically no waste is generated during installation.

    TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

Manufacturers and designers adhere to what is established by the Geosynthetic Institute (GSI) in their GRI specifications; GC-8 Determination of the permissible flow of a drainage geocomposite.

    • The geonet can range in thickness from 5 to 8.4 mm, and the geotextiles can be 6, 8, 10 oz on one or both sides of the geonet.
    • The geomembrane can range in thickness from 0.50 to 2.0 mm, and the geotextiles can be 6, 8, 10 oz on one or both sides of the geomembrane.
    • The geogrid can have various strengths, and the geotextile can be 6, 8, 10 oz on one side of the geonet.
